Not a laughing matter.
Imagine a person of astute observation.
A person who with one look knows exactly how to manipulate your feelings. One moment you are laughing, the next you are crying. Your favourite book becomes your shameful secret. The woman you love degrades to a filthy whore.
When looked at objectively this seems detestable. But manipulated as you are, you feel only joy.
Indeed, you smile.
And do not be concerned that an arrow of admonishment may strike you down at any moment, because this person will protect you like a shield smeared with oil.
Let your parents, teachers, and even your judges raise their bow — their arrows will never penetrate you.
Consider now, that this astute person sees not only you but has a wide periphery. They see your family. Your friends. On a whim, any or all of these people can be torn down, humiliated, and even removed from your circle altogether.
This astute person sees so closely the strands which hold together your society, that they unravel it with a single breath.
Rules are frayed.
Logic is twisted.
Morality is mocked.
Before long you too begin to make astute observations only to find they are not so astute and the observations make you recoil.
In desperation, you seek out this astute person — but they do not work for free. To remove your tears they must take your eyes.
Would you give them happily?
And yet, this person will attract you.
This person is called a comedian.
Consider this well for there is much to be learnt.
